Sneak peak of Lord of the Rings
It was the moment Tolkien fans had been waiting for - the first public viewing of footage from the Lord of the Rings on the internet.
A two-minute special preview of the Peter Jackson movie was released on Friday night, receiving hundreds of thousands of hits from around the world.
The Lord of the Rings has been named the greatest and most popular book of the 20th century.
"The responsibility of bringing this world screening visually is obviously enormous," says director Peter Jackson. "The technology has caught up with the incredible imagination that Tolkien injected into this story of his, and so this is the time."
Fans have to wait another two years to see the epic feature.
"I think it is really great that some of the footage we have been shooting can be seen at this early stage. We have been shooting for nearly six months now and we've got eight months to go. It is really great to share it with the fans."
